Brussels, 06/05/2024. In the middle of their visit to Brussels, tomorrow, Tuesday 7 May, the winners of the Finnova – TechnovationGirlsCV Challenges 2022 edition will attend, at the Finnova Foundation headquarters in Brussels, the event “Building the Europe of tomorrow with the women of today”, which will bring together more than 100 people to discuss the role of women and girls in the construction of Europe. During the event, young people from IES Alba Plata, Fuente de Cantos (Extremadura), will present their project “Helium”, an innovative proposal focused on the activation of tourism in the emptied Extremadura giving use to uninhabited buildings.
The idea stood out in an edition in which “all the initiatives proposed great ideas to generate disruptive changes in the environment and fully aligned with the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda” as stated by the president of the jury and coordinator of the Finnova – TechnovationGirlsCV Challenges, Lola Bordás CMO of the Finnova Foundation and CEO of the Founders association. “The presentation of their project this afternoon reinforces the importance of young entrepreneurship and the need to continue supporting innovation in all areas”, said Juanma Revuelta, CEO of the Foundation.
This afternoon’s event is part of the closing of the Erasmus+ 100 Women Plus project, a project led by Finnova, in collaboration with the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Founders Association, in favour of cooperation and understanding to promote women’s entrepreneurship and leadership. An event in which women and girls will be the focus of action and which will bring together different initiatives aimed at promoting female entrepreneurship and fostering innovation from STEM professions by women and girls. “Building the Europe of tomorrow with the women of today” seeks to create synergies between the participants, combining workshops, round tables, networking, exchange of experiences and ideas between entrepreneurs, companies, young people, administrations and business associations. All of this with the aim of making visible and strengthening the role of women in the economy, business, science and innovation.
Finnova – TechnovationGirlsCV Challenges
The Finnova Foundation collaborates with Technovation Girls through a series of challenges, linked to real projects of which Finnova is a partner and which are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. These challenges are open to the participation of young people of any gender, with the only condition that the groups are led by girls, contributing to the empowerment of young women. “The Finnova Foundation’s commitment to innovation and sustainability is evident in these challenges that we are launching to encourage young people, and girls, to work for a more sustainable world, using new technologies. We are very proud to be part of this initiative that seeks to train girls in STEAM through Finnova – TechnovationGirlsCV Challenges, and to motivate girls and teenagers between 10 and 18 years old to become entrepreneurs and leaders in the technological field”, said Revuelta.
Led in Valencia by María José Valero, CEO of Talent Growth Management and ambassador of Technovation Girls Comunidad Valenciana, the aim of this competition is to create groups of girls and young women aged between 10 and 18 so that, with the help of a mentor, they can develop a mobile application (app) that helps to solve a social problem that is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. In this way, in a fun and didactic way, the girls learn about programming concepts, app development, the development of a marketing plan and market research, in addition to learning about the social problems that affect their communities.
