“Building the Europe of tomorrow with the women of today”, the event celebrating female entrepreneurship in Brussels on 7 May

  • Finnova’s headquarters in Brussels will host the awards ceremony of the European project GirlForTech and the Challenges between the Spanish-Belgian foundation and Technovation on May 7 at its offices in Brussels.
  • A total of 7 young people between the ages of 17 and 24 have been awarded a trip to the European capital in order to promote innovation and the entrepreneurial role of girls and women.

Brussels, 23/04/2024. On 7 May, the European capital will host a key event focused on female entrepreneurship and innovation. The Finnova Foundation’s headquarters in Brussels will host ‘Building the Europe of tomorrow with the women of today’, an event that seeks to highlight and support the role of women in the economy and science.

The Spanish-Belgian Finnova Foundation will host the awards ceremony of the European project GirlsForTech and the TechnovationGirls Cv- Retos Finnova challenges.

Seven young talents, aged between 17 and 24, who have been rewarded with a trip to Brussels, will have the opportunity to participate in activities that promote innovation and female leadership. Specifically, the five winners of the Erasmus Plus GirlsForTech programme will be at the event with their project ‘Tas – Sustainable Active Tourism’, which aims to discover local places, increase sustainability, provide services, promote trade and tourism and encourage the improvement and respect of the environment, who will receive recognition for their achievements in offering a digital solution within the framework of the STEM concept (science,  technology, engineering and mathematics) to a local challenge in the municipality of Puçol.

Manuel Nuñez and Ángel Sanz, from the Helium group, have been the winners of TechnovationGirls Cv- Finnova Challenges 2024 with their proposal to promote sustainable tourism in the emptied Extremadura, using disused buildings. In addition, Nuñez and Sanz, who will attend the European capital to present their project, were winners of TechnovationGirls Cv- Finnova Challenges in collaboration with Finnova in 2021.

Paz Carceller, Mayor of Puçol, Carlos Esteve, councillor of the municipality and Carlos Maestro, teacher of the Valencian town, will also attend the event, underlining their commitment to the promotion of female leadership and entrepreneurship.

Attendees will enjoy interactive workshops, roundtables and networking sessions, designed for the exchange of experiences and ideas, thus strengthening the community of women in STEM.

GirlsForTech is an initiative that promotes local development through youth, especially girls, in the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) innovation and technology. Technovation Girls, on the other hand, is an entrepreneurship and technology program that aims to inspire girls and young women between the ages of 10 and 18 to become leaders and innovators. This annual competition, organized by the American non-profit association Technovatio, is sponsored by València Activa, the collaboration of American Space Valencia, ETSIAM of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), and the Valencian Engineering Board, among others.
